Often times we find ourselves blocked by a paywall when we try to get access to a research paper. Other times we might want to gather information about a country that’s not available on the mainstream media and surface net. To fulfill such needs and many more, you can use the dark web. Now you might associate dark web with illegal activities but it sure can be used ethically by us students with proper precautions. In the dark web, the website known as The Hidden Wiki is most useful. What it is and how can you access it will be discussed later but first we need to discuss how we can access the dark web itself.
How to access the dark web safely.
To access dark web, you need the Tor browser which can be downloaded from its official website (Tor Project | Anonymity Online). Tor allows you to be anonymous on the web and the DuckDuckGo search engine does not save user information. However, to add an extra layer of protection, you should use VPN while visiting dark web using Tor. You can now proceed to The Hidden Wiki and enjoy. Don’t do anything crazy ffs.
The Hidden Wiki.
The Hidden Wiki (http://zqktlwiuavvvqqt4ybvgvi7tyo4hjl5xgfuvpdf6otjiycgwqbym2qad.onion/) has a list of all the top sites of the dark web. You can find all sorts of websites there. But we are interested only in websites related to academics and journalism. Be careful and Do Not visit sites which contain potential harmful content. Y’all would not like a random stranger online telling your bio data to your face and threaten you. Once you go to The Hidden Wiki, scroll down to see all the links to the different websites. I am not listing those websites as the onion links are really long and the websites sometimes change so it is better to have the website of The Hidden Wiki itself which saves a lot of bookmark space on your Tor browser.
Bonus – You can find the CIA’s website that it uses on the dark web on The Hidden Wiki.
