If you are a student like me, you know that we spend all day at school or college. It’s the night when we get time to do our own things especially studying. Studying all night is a common thing for students particularly during exam times. Today’s blog is targeted towards my fellow night owls who are in a search for better ways to stay alert during late night study sessions. Even if you are an early bird, you’ll need to know how to stay alert during the times when you don’t have the luxury to choose your time. All the facts and figures are taken from a study whose link is provided at the bottom. So, let’s get started.
1. Take breaks between study sessions.
In the study, 93 students reported using this technique to stay alert at night. Your brain gets tired from the mental gymnastics during studying, so you have to give it some rest before hitting the accelerator again. On average, 95% of students who reported using this method passed their courses with an average grade of 45%. Don’t forget to drink water during breaks!
2. Listen to Music.
This is one of the most popular ways to stay alert at night during study sessions. In the study, 111 students reported using this technique to stay awake. On average, 94.5% of students who reported using this method passed their courses with an average grade of 47%. I blast my ears with Rock and Metal when my late-night study sessions are going on.
3. Walk around.
Walking around when you take a break is really helpful to refresh your mind. In the study, 47 students reported using this technique to stay awake. On average, 95.4% of students who reported using this method passed their courses with an average grade of 46.7%. Burn those calories, you’ll thank me later.
4. Discuss with other students.
Can you afford to sleep when your friend is explaining quantum mechanics? Of course, not. In the study, 45 students reported using this technique to stay awake. On average, 95.5% of students who reported using this method passed their courses with an average grade of 45.9%.
5. Drink Coca Cola
I think both of us know that drinking lots of Coke is not good for your health, but it is really useful for late night studies. In the study, 11 students reported using this technique to stay awake. On average, 96% of students who reported using this method passed their courses with an average grade of 50.2%.
Some other notable methods mentioned in the study are drinking water or coffee, washing your face with water and chewing bubble gum. I myself use some of these to stay alert during the dreadful nights before exams. I hope this blog will prove to be of great use to you. All the best for your upcoming exams!
